As we keep getting closer and closer to the final NFL game of the year, it has become evident that each team’s Super Bowl odds are really dependent on their quarterback.
Sure, it’s not breaking news but each year we seem to go through the same type of conversation. From the NFL Draft all the way up until the Super Bowl, we learn – and reinforce – the point that the quarterback is simply the most important position you can have on a team.
As we take a look at the teams that entered the playoffs, most NFL pundits would say that they are in pretty good shape.
In the AFC, the Indianapolis Colts have Peyton Manning, the San Diego Chargers have Philip Rivers, the Cincinnati Bengals have Carson Palmer, the New England Patriots have Tom Brady, the Baltimore Ravens have Joe Flacco and the New York Jets have rookie Mark Sanchez.
In the NFC, the New Orleans Saints have Drew Brees, the Minnesota Vikings have Brett Favre, the Dallas Cowboys have Tony Romo, the Arizona Cardinals have Kurt Warner, the Green Packers have Aaron Rodgers and the Philadelphia Eagles have Donovan McNabb.
Aside from Sanchez, you’d be hard pressed to find a quarterback here that you wouldn’t want to build a team around. And even Sanchez has been impressive at times as a rookie.
It’s not exactly a shrewd betting tips; rather it’s fairly simple: good quarterbacks bring you closer to the Super Bowl. And the teams who don’t have good quarterbacks are generally on the outside looking in every single year.
