Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa Bay, Florida, is still a few days away, but we’ve got a quick look at the early spread and over/under for the game. Featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Arizona Cardinals, the oddsmakers and early bettors are jumping all over the Steel Town team at the moment.
The early Super Bowl XLIII spread is -6.5 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team trying to win their second title in the last four years. As for Arizona, the fact that they have not been to the big game since 1947 does not help their Super Bowl betting on them.
Sure, Arizona has Kurt Warner, a former Super Bowl winner and a guy that has been composed in this postseason, but it’s his defense that has brought him here. Arizona’s defense has forced 11 turnovers in three playoff games, giving the offense great field position and a lot of extra possessions.
On the Pittsburgh side, they have gotten to the title game by doing it traditional Steelers way – by running the ball and playing sound defense. While many will counter that the passing game has not been stellar in the postseason, it hasn’t had to be. They have the top-rated defense and a QB in Ben Roethlisberger that doesn’t turn the ball over.
The Super Bowl over/under is currently listed at 47, not historically high for the NFL championship game, but certainly high for a Pittsburgh outcome. The Steelers/Ravens over/under was 34, a far cry from 47 points! However, Arizona is certainly used to playing high-scoring affairs. The Cardinals and Eagles had combined for 30 points at the half of the NFC Championship game.
