NFL betting players have been talking about the New York Jets, with similar buzz to the return of Liddell to UFC 116 Betting. The Jets have a new stadium and some new players after heading to the AFC championship game last year. But the road to the AFC East still goes through New England, who have won the division in seven of the last nine years, including last year, and they're not taking the Jets lightly.
The Patriots had all their big hitters in town for their OTAs, including Tom Brady and Randy Moss, who is looking for a new agent. But the big surprise was the sighting of Wes Welker, who was injured in the regular-season finale against Houston with a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee. The New England offense suffered in their 33-14 loss to Baltimore in the first round of the playoffs. When Welker isn't there, that's when you really see his effect on the Patriots as he's their best route runner and keeps defenses honest with his ability to go underneath and stretch the opposition, which frees up room for Randy Moss to go deep for Brady. It's a little tough to replace a guy who has averaged 115.3 catches over the last three years, including 123 in what was essentially 15 games last year. The Jets have a great defense, especially in the secondary, and the Patriots will be out to attack them when they meet for the first time in Week 2 on September 19th, when they make their first trip to the new Meadowlands Stadium in the regular season (they play the Giants there in their preseason finale). Welker should be fully recovered by then, which is a boost to the Patriots' betting odds.
