Even if you read a soccer blog, you’ll probably get wrapped up in Super Bowl fever when the big game is on the horizon, and today it’s time to look at the top five performances by a running back in the Super Bowl.
Timmy Smith, Washington
Smith holds the record with 204 yards, which he gained in the Redskins’ 42-10 thrashing of Denver in Super Bowl XXII, but he still didn’t receive the MVP award.
John Riggins, Washington
However, five years earlier in 1983, another Washington running back did as Riggins ran for 166 yards in a 27-17 win over Miami. This shouldn’t surprise online sports betting players, given the strength of the Washington offensive line.
Terrell Davis, Denver
Davis, in his hometown of San Diego, ran for 157 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 31-24 win over Green Bay, helping Denver legend John Elway win his first Super Bowl ring in 1998.
Emmitt Smith, Dallas
Smith powered the Cowboys to their second straight win over Buffalo in the big game, rushing for 132 yards and two scores in a 30-13 whipping of the Bills in 1994.
Marcus Allen, Oakland
Finally, Allen became the third man to win the Heisman Trophy (at USC) and the Super Bowl MVP when he rolled for 191 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-9 rout of Washington in 1994 and since running backs weren’t a favorite for MVP at that time, he probably helped out a few sport betting sharps as well.
